May 2026 High Band Contest Results

It was a beautifully warm and sunny Sunday for the first 5.7GHz and 10GHz Cumulative event. For the first time ever, the contest coincided with the popular and prestigious RSGB 10GHz Trophy, which significantly bolstered the number of UK stations active on 10GHz. On both bands conditions were described overall as varied, being quite good to average to poor, with some QSB noticeable.

On 10GHz, a record 53 stations were active, with over 6 stations achieving more than 25 QSOs. The busiest square was surprisingly IO82 with 12 active stations, and overall UK activity was well spread across 12 grid squares. On 5.7GHz, a total of 24 stations were active across 11 squares, with IO91 hosting 9 of those.

5.7GHz Results

- 15 stations entered, matching the turnout from the September 2025 session.

- ODX was a 281km QSO between Peter G4CLA (IO92) and Peter GW4JQP (IO71).

- Congratulations to the Rif Raf Contest Group G5RAR/P atop Brown Clee in IO82 (Heather M0HMO, Paul G8AQA, Kevin G8UPF, and Robin G1YFG) for taking the top spot, with Rob G7MHF/P, also operating from IO82 on Titterstone Clee, finishing as the close runner-up.

- Thanks to Keith G4ODA for submitting a check log.

10GHz Results

- 25 entries were received, marking a huge increase from the 15 logs submitted in the September 2025 event.

- ODX was a mouth-watering 535km late-afternoon QSO between F6DKW/P (JN18) and G5RAR/P (IO82).

- In the Open Section, John G4ZTR claimed the winning spot, with the Rif Raf Contest Group G5RAR/P taking the runner-up position.

- In the Restricted Section, the Coombe Gibberlets M0HNA/P team (10GHz operated by Barry G4SJH/P) were victorious, followed closely by Andrew GW0JCC/P in second place. It was fab to see some new callsigns in this 1W and under QRP category. The Restricted section exists to encourage new folks with simple set-ups to start their higher band GHz journey.

- Thanks again to Keith G4ODA for submitting a check log. Additionally, M1L (Stuart G0LGS) and M1I (Dave G4FRE/P) were identified as SCCs (Short Contest Calls); while these are permitted to enter the RSGB 10GHz Trophy, they cannot be accepted as competitive entries in UKuG contests. Thank you for your participation, as both of these entries were incredibly useful as check logs. Note that two stations worked Dave twice while he was using different callsigns; in accordance with the General Rules, the second QSO for each of those stations was disallowed.

Well done and a big thank you to everyone who took part and helped generate such fantastic activity across both bands. If you think overlapping this event with the RSGB 10GHz Trophy is a good idea for the future, please let the VHF Contest Committee know this Autumn when they begin planning the 2027 calendar. It certainly made the day much more lively and interesting for everyone!

For the first time in recent years, roving was not permitted in this opening session to align our rules with the RSGB event. Roving returns on both 5.7GHz and 10GHz for the second High Band Cumulative, which takes place on Sunday 28th June.
