February 2026 EHF Band Contest Results

The weather forecast for Sunday 22nd February looked a bit bleak for our inaugural EHF Band Cumulative event, and many of us were bracing for a difficult day. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find it stayed dry. In West Berkshire, the sun even made a very welcome appearance late afternoon! On the South Wales mountains conditions remained damp and misty. Poor visibility made it a challenge to align dishes without a clear horizon.

For the first time ever on 76GHz we reached double digits with 10 stations active, a fantastic turnout! With three 76GHz sessions in this EHF Band Cumulatives and five in the mm-Band events in 2026, there are plenty of upcoming opportunities to put your gear to the test.

While entries on 122GHz and 134GHz were a little lower this time, we're hopeful more of you will join the fun on those bands, as the season progresses.

A special nod to the four stations on two hilltops who were so caught up in the late afternoon sunshine (and excitement) that they didn't realise the contest had finished at 17:00 UTC! Those QSO's didn't count this time. In light of your feedback, we have extended the contest window until 20:00 UTC for the remaining two EHF Band sessions to better support those who do want to stay out and continue having fun.

76GHz

- Record Participation: 7 stations submitted logs, with 10 stations active in total (including G4ASR/P, M0GHZ/P, and G8ACE/P). What an amazing showing for our first event!

- Logging Accuracy: We saw an unusually large number of logging errors, with 6 out of 7 entrants losing precious points for QSO discrepancies. Do take extra care when recording received signal reports and serial numbers, to ensure every contact counts.

- Best ODX: An impressive 94km path was achieved between Roger G8CUB/P (IO91, Hackpen) and the team of Keith GW3TKH/P, Paul GW6UAJ/P, and Pete GW4HQX/P (IO81, The British).

- The Podium: Congratulations to Dave G4FRE/P, who's two-stop man-portable roving strategy along the Malvern Hills secured the top spot! Roger G8CUB/P followed in second, with Keith GW3TKH/P taking third.

122GHz

- Activity: Two stations submitted logs, with four active in total including John G8ACE/P and Roger G8CUB/P. Following the great showcasing of circa 10 VK3CV units at the Ridgeway Roundtable recently, there is huge potential participation on this band to grow significantly, in the following April and October events.

- Best DX: A solid 27km between Noel G8GTZ/P (IO91, Coombe Gibbet) and John G8ACE/P (IO91, Stockbridge).

- Winners: Congratulations to Noel G8GTZ/P for taking first place, and well done to Pete G1DFL/P for securing second while roving between three local sites.

- Thank you to Roger G8CUB/P for providing a checklog this time which was very helpful as a cross-reference.

134GHz

- Performance: Two stations submitted logs (with G8ACE/P also active). Conditions felt noticeably better here than on 122GHz, with stronger signals reported across the board.

- Best DX: A 27km QSO between Roger G8CUB/P (IO91, Coombe Gibbet) and Noel G8GTZ/P (IO91, Stockbridge). One-way QSOs were also completed across the same path with John G8ACE/P.

- Winners: Great work by Roger G8CUB/P and Noel G8GTZ/P, who share the spoils in joint first place this time.

241GHz

- No activity was recorded on 241GHz during this session.

A huge thank you to our winners and everyone who ventured out to activate these demanding bands. You made this first event a resounding success.

The second EHF Band Cumulative is on Sunday 26th April, followed by the final session on Sunday 25th October. The best two scores out of three count towards the final standings, so there is still everything to play for! We look forward to seeing a few more folks out on 122GHz next time. It would be great to see some experimentation on 241GHz later in the year, to activate that band!
