The results for the 2nd 2026 EHF Band event held in April are now in, and the weather and band conditions seemed far more favourable than the February session. It was certainly both warmer and calmer. There was another excellent turnout with a notable increase in activity on 122GHz, as many operators took to the band for the first time. This contest series focuses on the popular VK3CV modules, using 76GHz to assist with dish alignment while providing 134GHz and 241GHz for more experimental pioneering work. While we are still waiting for the first 241GHz logs to be submitted, there is plenty of building time left before the final session in October.
76GHz: Participation reached another record high with 9 stations submitting logs and 13 folks active in total, which is a significant jump from the small handful of stations on this band just 2 years ago. The best DX of 79km was achieved between Paul GW6UAJ/P, and the stations of Dave G4FRE/P, and Roger G8CUB/P. Congratulations go to Dave G4FRE/P, who took first place following an impressive and rather epic five-site roving effort, with Pete GW4HQX/P, in second and Roger G8CUB/P in third.
122GHz: This band also saw considerable growth with 7 stations active and submitting logs. Given that around 75 or so of the VK3CV boards were originally purchased by UK amateurs, it would be wonderful to see many more of these systems put to use rather than gathering dust, so please consider selling any unused kits via Scatterpoint. The longest distance was a tie at 38km, shared between Noel G8GTZ/P, Dave G1EHF/P, and Roger G8CUB/P across two paths. A quick reminder to all operators to ensure you move at least 5km each time between sites when roving, as some points were unfortunately lost this time due to this rule. Noel G8GTZ/P secured first place again, followed by Neil G4LDR/P in second, with Dave G1EHF/P, and Roger G8CUB/P, in joint third.
134GHz: Activity on this band remained steady with two stations submitting logs and successfully increasing their range to a 38km QSO between Roger G8CUB/P, and Noel G8GTZ/P. Congratulations to both station who share the top honours again for this band. Although 241GHz saw no activity this session, we are hopeful that systems will be ready for the autumn.
Well done to everyone who took part in this growing and fascinating area of the hobby. The EHF Band series offers contests across four of our highest spectrum allocations, providing a unique and rewarding challenge for all who participate. The final cumulative session is scheduled for Sunday 25th October, and with the best two scores out of three counting toward the final standings, there is still everything to play for.
